Water Heater Services in Southeast Michigan
Robin Aire offers maintenance, repair, and replacement services for tank and tankless water heaters. If you need to replace a water heater, you can choose from a traditional tank–style heater or an on–demand, tankless system. Storage tank water heaters store 40 to 120 gallons of water at a time and constantly reheat that water regardless of how much is actually demanded. A tankless water heater is also called an “on-demand” water heater because it only heats water when you turn on the hot water tap.

Water Heater FAQs
How long will my water heater last?
Storage tank water heaters will typically last 10 to 12 years before replacement is necessary, depending on the frequency of maintenance and the quality of the water. With exceptional maintenance, some gas models and many electric water heaters can last 20 years, as long as the tank does not corrode and begin leaking. Tankless water heaters can often last 25 years or longer with proper maintenance.
Are tankless water heaters more efficient?
With conventional water heaters, energy is constantly used to keep the water in the storage tank warm and ready for use. Tankless or on-demand water heaters only heat the water when it is needed, eliminating those standby losses. This typically means that you will use significantly less energy and your utility bills will be lower, but with the virtually unlimited hot water that a tankless water heater can provide, it can be easy to take longer showers or to use more hot water, eliminating the savings.
How often should I service my water heater?
At Robin Aire, we recommend that you schedule water heater maintenance about once a year. Our experts will provide a full water heater inspection, checking for problems with the burners, flue, heating elements, thermostat, wiring, and plumbing. We will also test the pressure relief valve, drain the sediment from storage tank water heaters, or flush the heat exchanger on tankless water heaters. Every three years, we will replace the anode rod to prevent tank corrosion, and we also offer optional infrared imaging to spot corrosion early.
When should I replace my water heater?
Once your water heater starts to have problems and is over 10 years old for conventional models, or 20 years old for tankless models, it may be time to consider a replacement. At that age, tanks may start to rust through, heat exchangers may begin to leak, or parts like the heating elements, thermostat, or gas valve may fail. Our experts at Robin Aire can evaluate your water heater and help you determine whether repair or replacement is the most cost-effective option.
